MEET GAVIN
Gavin is a bit of a creative and we are so lucky to have him. He joined Dovetail back in June 2022 and has been such a welcome addition to our team. Beginning with a 12 hours a week placement, Gavin now works part time as part of the sales and estimating team. Gavin completed his HND in architectural technology at college before joining the team.
Since then, Gavin has introduced a number of new skills and processes which have improved the overall customer experience and offered support to many members of the Dovetail team.
He especially loves working on bespoke projects, has introduced 3D room design which allows customers to clearly visualise a product within their room. This process is done through a mock up design of the room using SketchUp which is then screen recorded then shared with customers so they can really imagine the product in their room. Gavin is currently cataloging the entire furniture range into 3D drawings which gives customers and potential customers the opportunity to drop the images into their room, a service that Dovetail didn’t offer until Gavin joined.
Gavin said: “It’s good to be part of a lively team. I like seeing the furniture come to life from CAD drawings to a finished product sent out to the customer. I really like working on bespoke projects and hearing the customers’ feedback.”
Gavin’s boss Garry Laing said: “Gavin is creative, he’s introduced key sales and marketing tools for us which helps us stay competitive. From posters for the showroom to 3D drawings, to documents for site visits to help with estimates. He has lots of talent and fits right into the team.”
Most recently, Gavin has been working on a bespoke project for a customer after she had unsuccessfully searched high and low for what she was looking for. Gavin started by drawing up a console table and two bedside tables to the customers exact requirements before passing along for these to be made by the team.
The customer said: “My daughter has finished restyling my room. The items of furniture you have made go so well with everything and really bring the room together. I love them so much!
Thank you for the effort you put into them and for getting them done so quickly. I really do appreciate it.”

Gavin is currently working on a project with Crieff Hydro, recently completed work for Atholl Villa Guest House Pitlochry and ten console tables for Marriot Hotel Aberdeen. Keep an eye out across our social channels to take a look at what’s been happening here.
