Dovetail's roots go back well into the 19th century - back in fact to 1865 when the first steps were taken to provide facilities for work, support and education for men and women with visual impairment. This enterprise resulted in what was to become Royal Dundee Blindcraft Products.

About sixty years later, in the 1920s, a Lord Roberts Workshop was established in Dundee to provide employment for disabled ex-servicemen. These organisations worked independently for many years, and then in October 1993, they come together to form Dovetail Enterprises.

The merger and establishment of Dovetail Enterprises was made possible only by the continuing financial support of central and local government at the time.

And now, even though we live in a more constrained economic environment, we are pleased this support continues - from the Department of Work and Pension via the Workstep programme, and from Dundee, Angus, Perth & Kinross and Fife Local Authorities. Representatives from each of these local authorities serve as Directors on the Dovetail Enterprises Board.
